March 28 – Michael Cleary Band
The Michael Cleary band is a Hartford institution. They are celebrating their 19th year of making original Groove/Funk/Rock music with a twist and have been called Hartford's answer to the Allman Brothers. Their shows are filled with great songs, monstrous solos, epic jams, funky grooves and wacky humor. All in all, a diverse, joyous musical stew played and sung by talented musicians who love what they do.
The Connecticut press has already referred to King For A Day as a Fairfield County "Super Group." Its powerful jams are complimented by strong heartfelt lyrics and a kicking rhythm section. April 18 – Brian Dolzani Dolzani has a boy-next-door voice, and he uses it to his advantage, presenting himself as approachable and slightly vulnerable (as opposed to bratty). His songs are of the nerd-pop variety, a mix of piano ballads and acoustic guitar-centered, bouncy feel-good (and/or melancholy) tunes with introspective lyrics. April 25 – Fairfield County Children's Choir Unitarian Church of Bridgeport, 96 Chapel Street, Stratford The Fairfield County Children's Choir (FCCC) is a community-based choral program. Feb 7th - Sarah Blacker Sarah Blacker will make you dance a jig in the street, while she stomps, claps, and cheers you on! She’ll get a kick out of the way the music moves you, and will be equally as moved. She’ll even make your toughest bassist cry with the amount of passion she pours into each musical note she produces. She’ll treat you like an old friend before a show and stop you dead in your tracks once she starts to sing. Sarah performed this set in the cluttered confines of our FM studio with a small but enthusiastic audience. Audio: http://archives.wpkn.org/bookmarks/listen/5463 Feb 21- Glenn Roth Influenced both by talented fingerstyle artists such as Tommy Emmanuel, Michael Hedges, and Preston Reid and the bombast and melodicism of bands like Tool and 311, Glenn has developed a style of solo acoustic guitar playing that’s uniquely his own: aggressive, emotional, vibrant, melodic, in turn and often within the same song. Anyone who has marveled at Glenn’s brilliant acoustic interpretation of Iron Maiden’s Run to the Hills, a YouTube hit and a tribute to those early days of air-guitar, can attest to Glenn’s imaginative and virtuosic guitar playing.

Perhaps, but then, we all take ourselves too seriously, so why not? This quartet from New York plays accordion, bass, sax and guitar, they all sing, they have a good time playing old Italian folk songs, modern Italian pops, Irish and pseudo-Irish ballads, polkas, sea chanteys, jazz odysseys, mini-operas, and 'the occasional game of croquet.' Relax and enjoy; it's like spanding an evening at the Italian American Club with a group NY musical reprobates. Organic Soul was formed in 2006 by band leader Derek Graham and perform

1:00 p.m. Typhanie Monique & Neal Alger will join us for an hour of music and conversation. While many musical units are formed with a specific agenda, the jazz duo of Typhanie Monique, vocals, and Neal Alger, guitar, came about mostly by chance. With a background that contains R&B icons Tina Turner and Lionel Richie from her mother's listening habits, Typhanie came to discover jazz in her teenage years. After studying jazz vocal technique in college, Monique moved to Chicago and formed a successful funk/acid-jazz group Peking Turtle and performed at many venues in the midwest. Neal too eventually embraced jazz by his late teens but came into it from a different angle; Neal grew up listening and performing hard rock/progressive rock. Chicago became home for Alger after college as well, and he freelanced with local jazz luminaries and fronted his own trio. In the holiday spirit of an inclusive 'musical family', YULETIDE GROOVE, the newest project from Alger and Monique, features many special guests including rising Hammond B3 organ star Tony Monaco. Monaco brings an infectious beat, a rock-solid swing, and warm vocals to the chestnut "Baby It's Cold Outside" while Monique revels in Monaco's vitality, turning in an inspired vocal performance. A horn trio of trumpet, sax, and trombone brings a lush but not overly sentimental flavor to Vince Guaraldi's "Christmastime is Here" and the classic "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree". The sultry sexiness of "Santa Baby" is beautifully enhanced by a cha-cha arrangement which features the contagious musical exuberance of latinos pianist Darwin Noguera and trumpeter Victor Garcia. |

The WPKN Sunday Brunch Concert presents an encore performance of Stacy Phillips & Paul Howard live at the Kasbah from January 6, 2008. The duo performs a wide range of material—swing/jazz standards, Caribbean dances, Hawaiian hulas, bluegrass, calypso and East European gypsy music - all in their authentic styles. The addition of their original compositions makes their concerts a stimulating and diverse experience. Stacy Phillips and Paul Howard have been together since 1988 and have performed in a variety of venues, including several tours of Europe and the West Coast.
